This extensive study analyses Willem Sandberg's tenure and acquisition policies as director of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam from 1945 to 1962. The major part of the book concentrates on the paintings and sculptures which he acquired and for the first time a complete catalogue of these pieces has been researched and printed. Further the book provides insight into the development of the photography, industrial design and applied arts collections which were assembled during his directorship.
Published to coincide with a major exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum about Sandberg's influence.
