This silkscreen print by Richard Niessen was commissioned by the KVGO as their 'Koppermaandagprent' for the year 2004, and it represents the merger of the districts Haarlem and Amsterdam. It shows the Haarlemmerpoort in Amsterdam merged together with the Amsterdamsepoort in Haarlem and constructed out of the words 'Amsterdam', 'Haarlem', 'Kopperprent', 'Maandag 12 januari 2004', and 'KVGO'. It was produced in an edition of 125 copies for the KVGO and Niessen printed 25 extra copies for sale.
'Koppermaandag' is the traditional ushering in of the new year for the graphic industry in the Netherlands and many members of the industry produce a piece of exceptional 'printed matter' in a limited edition which they then offer as a gift to their business relations.
